Daily Iberian takes Issuu

Half Moon Bay Review design director Bill Murray noticed something remarkable this week as he was uploading some of our stuff on the Web publishing platform called Issuu. Unless we’re reading it wrong, Wick publications – those produced the Daily Iberian, to be specific — account for five of the 16 most-viewed Issuu publications of all time.

The Daily Iberian’s big five are the Newcomers Guide (with 1.48 million hits), the “Locally Owned” business directory (1.4 million), “Best of the Teche” (1.36 million), Special Seniors (1.01 million), and the Wedding Guide (1 million).

Now, I don’t really know what to make of that and am mostly mentioning it to see if it sparks some discussion here.

Daily Iberian Publisher Will Chapman wasn’t aware of the big page-view numbers either. He noted that “page views” could mean far fewer individuals seeing his publications than you might think.

“If you consider that our Newcomer’s Guide is 32 pages, 1.4 million page views would suggest 43,750 persons went through it page by page,” he wrote in an email to me. “Still not a bad number.” …

No, not at all. It’s certainly not my expertise, but I would think potential advertisers might be interested in numbers like that. I’m not sure how many papers use Issuu. At least two of ours do.
